| Sarkozy walks out on ‘60 Minutes’ Posted: 29 Oct 2007 06:18 AM CDT I add this page to MY bookmarks Sarkozy walks out on '60 Minutes' It is the interview heard 'round the world. French president Nicolas Sarkozy walked out on Leslie Stahl because instead of asking the world leader about France, Europe, the War on Terrorism, etc., she kept bugging him about his marriage to Cecilia. The two announced plans to divorce 2 weeks after the interview, parts of which aired last night on "60 Minutes." From the Sydney Morning Herald: "If I had something to say about Cecilia, I would not do so here," he said before cutting off further questions. AP reported CBS promoted the walkout, using it to trumpet the show. Hey, you don't outlast everyone on the air for nearly 40 years by being a fool. This got Drudge placement for CBS. AP reported: "You asked me that question," Sarkozy seems to say as he pulls off the microphone, stands up and walks away from the interviewer, who appears confused. Sarkozy, whose office announced October 18 that he had divorced his wife Cecilia, is known to be particularly prickly about questions on his personal life. He is also shown in the clip for the segment entitled "Sarko L'Americain" saying, "What an idiot," in apparent reference to his own press secretary. Before that, he said this about the United States, "You can be called Schwarzenegger and be governor of California." And you can be L'Americain and be president of France. AP's preview of the show, in full: French President Nicolas Sarkozy walked out of an interview with US CBS television news show 60 minutes, according to a clip of the show released Sunday in advance of the interview's airing. A clearly disturbed Sarkozy stood up muttering in French about the question, which was not heard, in a short publicity clip put on the Internet ahead of the 60 Minutes broadcast Sunday night. "You asked me that question," Sarkozy seems to say as he pulls off the microphone, stands up and walks away from the interviewer, who appears confused. "He's smart, energetic and tempestuous," the 60 Minutes clip said in promoting the show. The segment will be broadcast Sunday evening during the show, which begins at 7:00 pm (2300 GMT). It was not clear when the CBS interview was conducted. Subcribe on latest information about this in the reader Add This Page to YOUR's bookmarks |
| Posted: 29 Oct 2007 06:20 AM CDT I add this page to MY bookmarks T-Mobile Launches the T-Mobile Shadow – the First in a Planned Family of People-Centric Phones Built to Help Customers Stick Together T-Mobile Shadow™ Attacks Complexity through Super-Simple Communication Interfaces Designed To Make Popular Calling, Messaging and Picture Sharing Features Quick and Easy to Use Smart Multimedia Gallery T-Mobile Shadow, Sage (Photo: Business Wire) T-Mobile Shadow, Copper (Photo: Business Wire) BELLEVUE, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--T-Mobile USA, Inc., today announces the upcoming availability of the T-Mobile Shadow™ – the first phone in a planned franchise of phones under the Shadow brand, a name that will become synonymous with playful, easier and richer communications experiences offered only by T-Mobile®. Available beginning October 31, the T-Mobile Shadow is designed to significantly reduce the complexity often associated with many feature-rich devices, while maintaining all the powerful calling, messaging and picture sharing capabilities people crave to keep them connected. "We're calling the new line of devices 'Shadow' because they're designed to help people stay effortlessly connected with those who are closest to them – the people you would choose to have with you all the time if possible – the people you love checking in with during a hectic day or to share special news," said Robert Dotson, president and CEO, T-Mobile USA. "Shadow finally makes staying connected to people simple, fun and easy – and all without the hassle of using a complicated device. This is not a productivity tool. This phone is designed for people who have lives beyond work." For years, T-Mobile has been pioneering new products and services designed to reduce the complexity of staying connected to important people. This effort began years ago with the introduction of the T-Mobile Sidekick® family of devices, designed to make calling, texting and instant messaging much easier just as young adults were beginning to embrace these new forms of communication. In 2006, T-Mobile continued this work with the introduction of myFaves®, a service that offers unlimited nationwide calling and one-click communications access to the people who are most important to you.(1) The myFaves service was introduced simultaneously with the introduction of T-Mobile's new "stick together®" brand promise, a commitment by the company to focus laser-like on making it much easier and richer to stay connected with the people who matter most. The T-Mobile Shadow helps people effortlessly connect through the phone's innovative design and screamingly simple user interface. T-Mobile teamed with HTC, the designer and manufacturer, to eloquently integrate the phone's form and function. This focused effort resulted in an unmatched communications experience that strips out the complexity of traditional multi-function phones – so people don't have to wrestle with technology – and makes it more intuitive for customers to explore and try new ways to communicate. "We partnered exclusively with T-Mobile to help them deliver a deep communications experience that is built around the customer," said Peter Chou, president and CEO, HTC. "In both form and function, the T-Mobile Shadow delivers an unmistakable commitment to enhancing personal relationships." Highlighting the phone's distinct features and its complete ease of use, the T-Mobile Shadow offers:(1) An enhanced myFaves functionality that allows even more flexibility and ways to communicate and connect. Through this experience customers can now call, send an e-mail, text or instant message, and share a picture, video or voice note, all with a push of the button right from the myFaves home screen. An enhanced user-interface integrated with the Microsoft Windows Mobile 6 platform. A sleek, slider design, and a spin navigation wheel that make it a breeze to scroll through the polished user interface, myFaves icons, and other core phone features. One of the largest, most-radiant screens on any T-Mobile phone. When combined with its high-quality, 2.0-megapixel digital camera with video capture, it enables customers to record and share those special moments in vibrant ways. Plus, a multimedia player provides a convenient way to listen to and share favorite music and video. An array of lights and sounds that differentiate one function from another, whether you're receiving an e-mail, picture message or calendar appointment notification. Wi-Fi and EDGE-enabled high-speed Internet access to power Web surfing so that connecting to your favorite social networking site is quick and easy. A reminder feature, so customers need never forget another friend's or family member's birthday or anniversary with the ability to set reminders for these important days in the lives of their 'fave five.' T-Mobile Address Book that lets customers easily import contact information from Yahoo!®, Gmail™, Microsoft Outlook® and other e-mail services onto their phone using my.t-mobile.com, and automatically back up their phone's address book online. The T-Mobile Shadow will be available in two fashionable tones – copper and sage. It will be available exclusively to T-Mobile customers beginning Oct. 31 at T-Mobile retail stores and online at www.t-mobile.com. Customers can learn more about the T-Mobile Shadow, including in-depth features information, at www.t-mobile.com/shadow. | Posted: 29 Oct 2007 06:29 AM CDT I add this page to MY bookmarks Putin Strikes with a Blade President Vladimir Putin on Thursday compared his counterparts in the upcoming Russia-EU summit to a mad man who runs around Europe with a blade in his hands. Kommersant's special correspondent Andrey Kolesnikov tried to keep a cool head in the situation. Vladimir Putin was greeted in Portugal with a touching welcoming ceremony. The square opposite the Jeronimos Monastery was lined with a record number of horses, which are known to be Mr. Putin's great love, as well as guardsmen who also attracted his attention though he tried to hide the interest. The Russian leader's motorcade went from the square to the presidential palace not with a speed of horses but of pedestrians as the cars would stop now and again to let people cross the road, which was ensured by an escort of Portuguese motorcyclists. Mr. Putin held quick talks with the Portuguese president in the presidential palace, made a joint statement for the press and answered two questions. His answer to the second question has rocked what seemed to be as a senseless course of his working visit in Portugal. The Russian president's disarming honesty was provoked by a Portuguese journalist who asked if Mr. Putin agrees that relations between Russia and the EU are in their lowest points since the Cold War. "I do not think relations with Europe are in a regrettable shape," the Russian president said. "There are simply issues on which we disagree. When we discussion things with our European Commission partners, I sometimes get an impression we defend European interests stronger than they." So, Vladimir Putin was apparently thinking of himself in that moment of being holier than the Pope. "Take the Kosovo issue. Don't you have enough problems in Spain or potential problems in Romania? Or Belgium?" he said. Portuguese reporters were exchanging uneasy looks. They probably had no idea that Spain or Belgium has any problems. "Why keep rocking the foundations of the international law, encourage and develop separatism in Europe and the ex-Soviet space?" Vladimir Putin asked. The Portuguese president was nodding in agreement as he was listening to his Russian counterpart. He gave a nod even after that statement with a surprising willingness. I also noticed that he was nodding when Vladimir Putin was speaking in Russia and stopped nodding when he listened to the translation. "Or Iran," the Russian president continued. "We are strongly against violating norms of the international law which binds to observe the non-proliferation regime. I reiterated this thought during my visit to Iran… Why worsen the situation and bring it to a dead end by threatening sanctions or military action? Not long ago it didn't seem possible to resolve the situation with North Korea peacefully… I think running around like a mad man with a blade in one's hand is not the best way to solve such problems." The answer was more than irrefragable. Wires reporters seemed to be the people who were most pleased about it. They double-checked with each other if they go the word "blade" right, and once they got the confirmation, they rushed to report these words. They were radiating calm and confidence in tomorrow as they knew that the Russia-EU summit would start that day with an issue as risky as a blade. | POSTGAME: Notable World Series accomplishments, from MLB Posted: 29 Oct 2007 11:57 AM CDT I add this page to MY bookmarks POSTGAME: Notable World Series accomplishments, from MLB WORLD SERIES NOTABLE ACCOMPLISHMENTS ROOKIES ABOUND: Boston started a pair of rookies in Game One – DUSTIN PEDROIA and JACOBY ELLSBURY – the first World Series team since the New York Mets in 2000 (Timo Perez and Jay Payton) to start two rookie position players in Game One of a World Series. Colorado's TROY TULOWITZKI became the fifth rookie shortstop to start a World Series game since 1969, joining DAVE CONCEPCION (1970), WALT WEISS (1988), KEVIN STOCKER (1993) and DEREK JETER (1996). DUSTIN PEDROIA: Became the second player to lead off the first game of the World Series with a home run, joining DON BUFORD, who homered for Baltimore in Game One of the 1969 World Series against the Mets (October 11). In addition, Pedroia became the first rookie to hit a leadoff home run to start any World Series game. JOSH BECKETT: • Beckett's four consecutive strikeouts to begin Game One were the third most ever to start a World Series game, behind SANDY KOUFAX (LA, Oct. 2, 1963 vs. NYY) and MORT COOPER (STL, Oct. 11, 1943 vs. NYY), who both had six straight strikeouts to begin a World Series game. • Became the 19th pitcher to start a World Series game in both leagues, as he previously opened for Florida in 2003. He is the first to do so since ROGER CLEMENS and ANDY PETTITTE for Houston in 2005 after starting for New York (AL) on multiple occasions. • Recorded his fourth victory of the postseason in Game One, becoming the ninth pitcher to win four games in one postseason as a starting pitcher. Beckett joins BURT HOOTON (1981), DAVE STEWART (1989), JACK MORRIS (1991), OREL HERSHISER (1995), JOHN SMOLTZ (1996), DAVID WELLS (1998), RANDY JOHNSON (2001) and CURT SCHILLING (2001). No pitcher has ever won five games as a starter in a single postseason. UBALDO JIMENEZ: With his Game Two start for Colorado, he became the fifth pitcher ever to start a World Series game with fewer than 90 regular season innings of major league experience, the first since MARTY BYSTROM made a Game Five start for the Phillies in 1980. MATT HOLLIDAY collected four hits in Game Two, the 57th time in World Series history a player has collected four or more hits in a game. CURT SCHILLING: With his Game Two victory, he became just the second pitcher over 40 (40 years, 11 months, 11 days) to start and win a World Series game, joining KENNY ROGERS, who started and won Game Two of 2006 Series against St. Louis at 41 yrs, 11 mos, 12 days. He is the fourth pitcher overall over 40 to win a World Series game, with two winning in relief: DOLF LUQUE, 43 years, 2 months, 3 days when he defeated Washington in relief for the Giants in the 5th and deciding game of the 1933 World Series on October 7, and JOHN FRANCO, 40 years, one month, 7 days when he defeated the Yankees in relief with the Mets on October 24, 2000, Game 3. 1-2 PUNCH: JOSH BECKETT and CURT SCHILLING combined to go 7-0 this postseason, the first time a pair of teammates have gone 7-0 in a single postseason since DAVE STEWART (4-0) and MIKE MOORE (3-0) guided the 1989 Oakland A's to a world title…Information courtesy of Elias Sports Bureau. ROOKIE TANDEMS: JACOBY ELLSBURY and DUSTIN PEDROIA started Game Three in the top two spots of the Red Sox order. They became the first set of rookies in World Series history to hit 1-2 in a lineup. The last rookies to hit back-to-back in a lineup were TIMO PEREZ (batting 7th) and JAY PAYTON (batting 8th) in Game Five for the 2000 New York Mets. ELLSBURY and PEDROIA also became the first pair of rookies in World Series history to each collect at least three hits in the same Fall Classic game with their Game Three performances. ROOKIE LEAD-OFF MAN: Ellsbury was the first rookie to hit lead off for a World Series game since TIMO PEREZ led off for the Mets in Game Four of the 2000 World Series, October 25, against the Yankees. DOUBLE MAN: JACOBY ELLSBURY hit two doubles in the third inning of Game Three, becoming the second player in World Series history to collect two doubles in an inning. He joined MATT WILLIAMS (Ari.), Nov. 3, 2001 (3rd inning) as the only player to accomplish the feat. With four hits in the game, Ellsbury became the first rookie to record a multi-hit game since Chicago's TADAHITO IGUCHI on Oct. 25, 2005 against Houston (Game 3). It was the third time a rookie had four hits in a game in World Series play, joining FRED LINDSTROM (1924 Game Five for New York Giants) and JOE GARAGIOLA (1946 Game Four for St. Louis). Ellsbury totaled three doubles, tied for second most ever in a World Series game, behind FRANK ISBELL (CWS), October 13, 1906. DAISUKE WITH THE BAT: In Game Three, DAISUKE MATSUZAKA became the first pitcher to record a hit in a World Series game since JEFF SUPPAN (STL) recorded a hit in Game Three of the 2004 World Series (10/26/04). He's the first Red Sox pitcher to get a hit in World Series play since BILL LEE in Game Seven of the 1975 World Series. MANY RUNS: With 25 runs over the first three games of the series, the Red Sox have matched the second-highest total for runs scored in the first three games of a World Series. In 1911, Philadelphia scored 25 runs in three games, while the 1960 Yankees scored 30 runs, most ever in three games. BOBBY KIELTY became the 32nd player in World Series history to homer in his first World Series at-bat, when he led off the 8th inning with a pinch-hit home run on the first pitch to lead off the 8th inning off BRIAN FUENTES. He is the 21st player in World Series history to hit a pinch-hit home run. In both cases, he is the first since Chicago's GEOFF BLUM hit a game-winning 14th inning home run in Game Three of the 2005 World Series at Houston (Oct. 25). WINNING STARTERS: Red Sox starting pitchers recorded the win in each of the four games of this series, just the 2nd time in World Series history four starting pitchers won the first four games for a winning team, joining the 1927 Yankees staff of WAITE HOYT (Gm. 1), GEORGE PIPGRAS (Gm. 2), HERB PENNOCK (Gm. 3) and WILCY MOORE (Gm. 4). MIKE LOWELL: Lowell is the eighth third baseman in World Series history to win the MVP Award, the first since Anaheim's TROY GLAUS in 2002, the most represented position with the MVP. Lowell is the second Boston MVP in history, joining MANNY RAMIREZ in 2004. The Red Sox World Series championship roster features four World Series MVPs: Lowell (2007), Ramirez (2004), JOSH BECKETT (2003) and CURT SCHILLING (2001). TERRY FRANCONA becomes the 19th manager to win 2 World Series, the second consecutive year a manager has won his 2nd, joining TONY LaRUSSA with St. Louis (2006). Francona is the 11th manager to win his 1st two World Series appearances. Francona joins BILL CARRIGAN (1915 and 1916) as the only managers to win multiple World Series for the Red Sox. | Posted: 29 Oct 2007 12:41 PM CDT I add this page to MY bookmarks Bigfoot research organization But a hunter in Pennsylvania thinks that's what his camera (with an automatic trigger) caught a picture of in Allegheny National Forest. He says he's never seen anything like it, so he took the photo to the Bigfoot Research Organization (BRO, not to be confused with the less-popular and -respected Bigfoot Organization - "BO") for their opinion. Of course, they think it's Bigfoot! "It appears to be a primate-like animal. In my opinion, it appears to be a juvenile Sasquatch," said Paul Majeta of the bigfoot group. Awesome! Finally, some evidence the big hairy guy exists! But, alas, there are skeptics: However, the Pennsylvania Game Commission has a more conventional opinion. Agency spokesman Jerry Feaser said conservation officers routinely trap bears to be tagged and often see animals that look like the photos. "There is no question it is a bear with a severe case of mange," Feaser told The Bradford Era. Clearrly, a government conspiracy to keep the truth from the masses… Subcribe on latest information about this in the reader Add This Page to YOUR's bookmarks |
| Hunter Rick Jacobs claims Bigfoot photo Posted: 29 Oct 2007 12:42 PM CDT I add this page to MY bookmarks Hunter Rick Jacobs claims Bigfoot photo Rick Jacobs, a hunter from Pennsylvania, claims that he has taken a picture of Bigfoot. The animal on the picture certainly does not look like a bear. The photo of Bigfoot by Rick Jacobs was posted on the website of the Bigfoot Research Organization (yes, there is one) and according to one of the members of the organization, the photo appears to be one of a juvenile Sasquatch. Rick Jacobs took the picture in the Allegheny National Forest by using a camera with an automatic trigger, although the exact location where in the Forest the pics were taken is being kept secret to avoid the thousands of Bigfoot fans, who would show up in search of the mystical creature. The Pennsylvania Game Commission says that they often see picture like this and it seems to be a bear with a severe case of skin disease. An online sportsbook once offered odds on the existence of Sasquatch, but the prop was canceled due to lack of interest. Now with Jacob's Bigfoot, we may see those weird odds pop up again. | Tropical storm noel is comming Posted: 29 Oct 2007 12:43 PM CDT ![]() I add this page to MY bookmarks Tropical Storm Noel Heads Towards Cuba Let's face it: when you're a conservative, and they name a tropical storm after you that's heading towards Cuba, it's almost a moral imperative you share the news with your friends. With that in mind, as reported by AccuWeather (video available here): At 11 p.m. EDT Tropical Storm Noel was located near 17.1 north and 72.1 west or about 105 miles south of Port Au Prince, Haiti. Sustained winds are 60 mph with higher gusts and tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 115 miles. Tropical Storm Noel is moving to the north-northwest at 5 mph. The minimum central pressure is estimated at 996 millibars, or 29.41 inches of mercury. A tropical storm warning is recommended for the southern coast of Dominican Republic from Barahona westward. Tropical storm warning is in effect for the entire coast of Haiti. Tropical storm warning and hurricane watch is in effect for the Cuban provinces of Granma, Santiago De Cuba, Guantanamo, and Holguin. A tropical storm watch is in effect for Jamaica. Tropical Storm Noel is expected to slowly strengthen over the next 12-24 hours as wind shear continues to weaken across the region, but interaction with Haiti could counteract the development into early Monday. Latest satellite images show that most of the thunderstorm activity is firing near and to the east of the center of circulation. This storm is expected to continue on a northwest track across western Haiti later Sunday night or Monday morning and perhaps across eastern Cuba Monday night or early Tuesday. It may affect the central and northern Bahamas Wednesday and Thursday then get picked up by an upper-level trough moving across the eastern United States later in the week, steering it away from Florida, but it could get within 100 miles of southeast Florida. In the meantime, a strong pressure gradient between high pressure over the mid-Atlantic states and Noel is causing a strong onshore flow into eastern Florida and this will persist over the next several days leading to rough surf and coastal flooding. Further strengthening of Noel is anticipated Monday and this system may become a hurricane by the time it reaches the coast of Cuba. Regardless of the strength, this system will produce very heavy rain over Puerto Rico, Hispaniola and eastern Cuba the next couple of days which will lead to deadly mudslides in the mountains and flooding. In fact, flooding across Hispaniola could be catastrophic over the next 24 hours. Interests in the Bahamas and South Florida, including the Florida Keys, as well as the southeast U.S. coast should monitor the progress of this system. All kidding aside, I hope Noel never makes landfall, and only causes political damage to those metaphorically in its path.
